In some ways, countries are like people. They have a past, they suffer, they grow, they search for happiness. Simply put, they have their own personality. And for that very reason, as with humans, if you want to understand countries you have to listen to them, share emotions with them and gently get deeper into them until you discover their true soul.
This new album, “Portugalidades”, is an attempt to journey into the Portuguese soul and culture through twelve songs. The references along this north-to-south route through the traditional rhythms of the country are marked by Portuguese guitar, the cavaquinho, bagpipes and the adufe. The journey takes us from the melancholic sounds of the fado to the local village festivals where, laid over the traditional beats, voices interweave and harmonize in true Portuguese style.
