Edgar Vila Martin

Composer and guitarist

Edgar began playing the guitar at just three years old, under the tutelage of his own father. In 2000, he won an international competition for flamenco soloists when he was still only 14, and that same year saw him begin his studies at the Conservatori del Liceu de Barcelona under Manuel Granados. He shared the stage with Juanito Valderama and Miguel Poveda at the summer festival of Manlleu (Barcelona), but it was Manuel Carvajal’s master classes that really gave him the flamenco bug.

Edgar worked on Paco Limón’s short film “Doctor Infierno” and on the soundtrack of Spain and Europe’s first ever Anime (Manga) film GISAKU, with Oscar Araujo and Emilio Alquézar. He also gave a master class in beginners’ flamenco at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts in 2009. As well as collaborating on El Chinchilla’s records, Edgar has been involved in many musical projects including Callejón Flamenco, Privilegia-2 (electric guitar), E3lvn (electric guitar), Madera de Hierro, A Contratiempo and Caiqué (with whom he made a record in 2013).
